The Latest Trend: Designer Ceiling Tiles

Ceiling tiles have gotten a makeover and are now one of the hottest design trends for any room in the house. Add the dramatic look of a coffered ceiling, create warmth and beauty with natural-looking wood ceiling planks or give your room a timeless classic appeal with a tin ceiling. Decorative ceiling tiles from Armstrong, now available at Choice, give you the ability to add interest to your rooms by turning your ceiling into a “fifth wall.”

And, you don’t have to limit your tiles to ceilings. Homeowners are now using ceiling tiles for kitchen backsplashes, especially tiles with a metallic finish. Armstrong’s Metallaire line comes in sizes specifically for backplashes or walls. The tiles are made with beautiful 19th century historic patterns and use real metal (that won’t rust).

Get creative with the extra ceiling tiles from your home improvement project and use them for crafts and home décor. Keep in mind that most decorative tiles are easy to cut, so they can be trimmed for a variety of purposes.

  • Position four to six 12” x 12” tiles in a grid, with a couple of inches between each one, over your sofa, for a decorative piece of wall art. Tip: Vary the types and patterns of the tiles for more interest. Tin-backsplash1
  • Create a one-of-a-kind headboard by painting a 2” border on the wall behind your bed, then insert the ceiling tiles inside the painted border (with no gaps between tiles). Tip: Before adding the tiles, consider painting them a bold color for a dramatic effect.
  • Use the ceiling tiles as a stylish way to cover up the scuffs and shoe marks on your kitchen island bar. Tip: Paint them to match your existing color scheme or use tin/metallic tiles for added interest.
  • Cover a wooden crate to make a unique magazine holder—a fun project for teens!
